"Queen Rock Montreal"

2024, NR, 95m, C

This concert film was shot in 1981 in Canada, where Freddie Mercury gives an energetic performance. It was given a limited IMAX release in 2024. After the effects-heavy "Eras Tour" from Taylor Swift, this concert is a bit different - you don't need effects, because Mercury's performing is a show in of itself. Interestingly, he gets very sweaty, and gradually wears less and less clothes to cool off. All your Queen favorites are played, at least up to the time it was filmed. If you like Queen, you'll get a lot of it here.

"A Quiet Place"

2018, PG-13, 90m, C

"A Quiet Place" operates on the gimmick that no one can make a sound, which actually gives it an interesting structure. It takes place in a dystopian future, where monsters hyper-sensitive to noise are roaming and attacking. This forces a family into confinement, where household events pose a threat to their life, such as stepping on a stray nail. Sign language is the primary form of communication, along with facial expressions and physical movement. The CGI for the monsters is not very convincing, and some might be turned off by the minimal dialogue, which reduces the dynamics to a struggle for survival. But the monsters aren't shown often, and with an open mind, this is an effective horror film.
